- ChatGPT’s new Advanced Voice Mode gives it a Jarvis-like conversational ability.
- The feature is rolling out globally, but Europe is excluded due to regulatory challenges.
- Users can choose from five voices, with Enterprise and Edu access arriving next week.
OpenAI has finally decided that ChatGPT should start talking—literally. This week, they began rolling out the much-anticipated Advanced Voice Mode (AVM), which allows ChatGPT to respond in a more natural, conversational manner.
Yes, ChatGPT has gone full Jarvis. It can chat, apologize, and even change its tone depending on the conversation. However, if you live in Europe, you won’t hear it anytime soon.
This is the closest thing to having a personal AI butler. AVM is now available to users of OpenAI’s Plus and Teams plans, and it includes five sleek new voices: Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale.
Think of Jarvis, but with fewer quips. The rollout is taking place this week, and by next week, Enterprise and Edu customers will be able to enjoy their own personal assistant with some seriously smart vocal cords.
The voice mode is not a gimmick, either. OpenAI promises smoother conversations, improved accent recognition, and the ability to apologize in more than 50 languages.
Now, your artificial intelligence assistant can sound more human than ever. You can interrupt it in the middle of a sentence, and it, like Jarvis, will adjust accordingly—whether you’re asking for a weather update or pondering the meaning of life.
It even remembers your preferences, thanks to the new Custom Instructions and Memory features, which allow you to control how it responds.
But there’s a catch: if you live in the EU, the UK, or a number of other European countries, ChatGPT ignores you.
Due to a slew of privacy laws and regulatory hurdles, AVM will not be available in those regions anytime soon.
OpenAI has not provided a firm timeline for when Europe will join in on the action, but let’s just say the delay has left many potential Jarvis owners frustrated.
Still, for the fortunate few who have access to it, ChatGPT has taken a giant step toward becoming your daily AI sidekick.
You may not be Tony Stark, but your chatbot can sound like it’s just about to offer to build you an Iron Man suit.
