Casio halts repairs after a cyberattack crippled systems and exposed sensitive data, triggering major delays.

  • Casio suspends repairs after an October 5 cyberattack.
  • Underground ransomware group claims to have stolen 204.9 GB of data.
  • Casio aims to restore systems by late November.

Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has been forced to suspend its repair services due to a massive system failure caused by a cyberattack on October 5, 2024.

The company revealed that the breach has resulted in significant delays in processing repair requests, with customers waiting in line as Casio works to restore its systems by late November.

According to a statement released today, they confirmed the suspension of all personal product repairs and apologized for any inconvenience.

Underground, a ransomware group, has claimed responsibility for the attack, boasting the theft of 204.9 GB of sensitive data.

This haul allegedly includes confidential documents, legal records, employee payroll information, non-disclosure agreements, patent files, and even project specifications.

Underground provided a sample of the stolen data as evidence of their claims, raising further concerns about the breach.

In an official statement, Casio admitted that its network had been compromised, resulting in the system failure that has paralyzed certain services.

“We deeply apologize for the inconvenience and trouble caused to our customers,” the statement read. The company promised to resume operations as soon as possible.

Casio also reported the incident to the appropriate authorities and launched an investigation with external specialists to assess the damage.

The primary concern is determining whether any personal or sensitive information has been compromised.

According to Casio, the breach could have affected not only employee data but also information about contracts, sales, legal documents, and even customers who had applied for repairs or jobs.

Casio has been targeted by cybercriminals on numerous occasions. Hackmanac, a cyber threat tracking account, reported a similar incident involving Casio's Indian branch in April 2024.

Stormous, a hacking group, allegedly stole 175 GB of critical data, including personal identification and financial records.

Customers will have to wait until the end of November for updates on the resumption of repair services, assuming the company's systems have been restored by then.

Until then, Casio's reputation continues to suffer, with customers left in the dark and sensitive data potentially falling into the hands of cybercriminals.
